On the 21st July 2004, the remains of a WWII Mosquito fighter bomber were recovered by a team of MOD specialists and staff from the Conservancy Board. The aircraft crashed into the sea in the last months of the second world war. The pilot and navigator both lost their lives. The aircraft had remained undiscovered for nearly sixty years, until the shifting sands exposed the tips of one of the two propellers, which was spotted by the Deputy Harbour Master on a low water inspection. On deck are the two propellers and both engines.
