                     Notice to Mariners No. 22/2009


East Coast of England - The Wash


Approaches to King's Lynn - Allowances on Draught.


For a vessel to be considered suitable for transiting the approach channel to King's Lynn, the following allowances must be added to the vessels draught and the total must not be greater than the predicted High water* height for a given tide. It should also be noted that if the tide fails to reach prediction then in the interests of safety the intended transit may be delayed until sufficient tidal height is achieved. *Based on tidal predictions for King's Lynn, Datum King's Lynn Dock Sill, which is 0.74 metre below Chart Datum King's Lynn.

Vessels maximum draughts 6.0 metres from Riverside Quay and 5.5 metres to or from the Docks, subject to prior consultation and approval.


For Vessels to or from Riverside Quay.

(Following consultation with ABP King's Lynn).

Maximum arrival draught 5.8 metres. Max departure draught 6.0 metres

(Max draught Vessels to depart Quay 30 mins to H.W.).

Up to 80 metres  1.7 metres.

80 - 100 metres 1.7 metres.

100 +  metres  1.7 metres. May require Tug for both arrival and departure.

Vessels sailing from RSQ at draughts of 5.81 - 6.0 metres a 2.0 metre allowance is required.


For Vessels To the Docks.

( Following consultation with ABP King's Lynn).

Maximum arrival draught 5.5 metres.

Up to 80 metres  1.7 metres.

80 - 100 metres  1.9 metres.

100 +     metres  2.0 metres.


For Vessels From the Docks.

( Following consultation with ABP King's Lynn).

Maximum departure draught 5.5 metres.

(Max draught Vessels to be in river 30 mins to H.W.)

Up to 80 metres  1.8 metres.

80 - 100 metres  2.0 metres.

100 +    metres  2.2 metres.


All vessels in excess of 100 metres L.O.A., must be notified to the Harbour Office for consideration prior to being fixed for the port.


For Vessels to or from South Quay.

(Max draught Vessels to depart Quay 30 mins to H.W.).

Up to 95 metres  1.7 metres.


Notice to Mariners 04/2008 is cancelled.
